This project consists of two mediums depicting the female nude. It is representing two traits of the same identity, the exterior and the interior. The painted canvases portray three women with confidence, unafraid to expose their flaws to the public, referencing the exterior character. Whilst the canvases placed behind the paintings represent the true emotions a woman feels about her aesthetic. A woman unhappy with her body, feeling powerless and incomplete, hence why I didn't paint all of her because she does not perceive herself as beautiful. Moreover, I used thread to draw the woman because thread represents the imperfect, referencing the kintsugi's symbol of fixing what is broken.
This medium, thread, is further trying to explain the interior character, a trait that needs mending. These two traits are connected with a gold thread, again illustrating the kintsugi's message of mending and binding. The interior and the exterior live within a single person, a human being, hence why the thread is tying them together because it wants to unify these traits and allow balance. It wants these two traits to work together to achieve their desired goal, that is for the woman to accept her body and regain her confidence.
